New Danish ’intelligent grid’ Network

A new Danish network for companies with an interest in the intelligent grid called ‘Smart Grid’ is in the pipeline, and Denmark is a leader when it comes to solutions for intelligent grids. Your cluster could be represented in the Smart Grid initiatives - is it relevant for your further development to be part of the network?

The American President, Barack Obama, mentioned it during a press conference in March, and a few months ago Danish companies checked-in to the Mecca of technology, Silicon Valley in California, to share with the world how far Denmark is in the development of intelligent grids. It concerns the so-called Smart Grid solutions, which in the popular sense of the word makes it possible to save the surplus energy emerging from the production of energy, and the Danish companies have valuable knowhow and practical experience in that area.

The trip to Silicon Valley was the first part of the Smart Grid Applied campaign that the Innovation Center Denmark, which is a joint representation for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science, Technlogy and Innovation, has established in order to promote the Danish technology and experience. The second part of the campaign is a seminar that will take place in Copenhagen on the 24th to the 27th of October 2011.

At the same time, The Confederation of Danish Industry is establishing a Smart Grid network for companies with an interest in intelligent grids and energy infrastructure. The network is to help promote Danish companies’ further development of the technology, and even though the first network meeting took place on the 7th of September, it is still possible to join the network.

The new network may become a new cluster

The political decision that in 2050 Denmark will be independent of fossil fuel is a complicated task that requires close collaboration between the various private actors, authorities and educational institutions. It is highly probable that the new networks working with the intelligent grid, which The Confederation of Danish Industry has now initiated, will have developed into an actual cluster collaboration within a few years.

Facts: The Smart Grid is a modernised grid that delivers electricity from supplier to consumer by digital technology. The ’intelligent’ and ’smart’ part of the concept is the possibility of using alternative energy sources in the transport and heat sectors. Furthermore, the Smart Grid makes it possible to e.g. saving the surplus energy emerging from the prodution of energy, so that it is not wasted. Re-selling the surplus is also an option.
